European Commission – DG Environment – Unit Industrial Emissions & Safety (project initiator)
Our Mission
Protect human health and the environment from the risks posed by industrial emissions, industrial accidents and mercury. To this end we:
Contribute to the protection of air, water and soil resources, waste prevention and management, as well as to prevention of contaminated sites, through an integrated approach to prevention and control of routine and accidental industrial emissions.
Develop, review and foster implementation of EU policy and legislation on industrial emissions, accidents and mercury.
In close partnership with JRC, we firmly promote the EU-wide uptake and further development of the best available techniques and practices for preventing and reducing industrial emissions.
Provide public access to information on emissions and releases of pollutants and waste.
Contribute to the sustainable use of resources and in particular the Circular Economy and Energy Union.
Ensure international cooperation in order to improve the quality of the environment by greening industrial activities globally.
We work cooperatively with all internal and external stakeholders to find constructive and operational solutions. We carry out our work in close partnership with other European Commission DGs and Units, Agencies, and International Organisations.
